Who we are
Mount Kenya Youth Initiative for Ecosystem
Restoration (MKYIER) is a community-based organization founded
by graduates’ volunteers from various fields (IT, Forestry,
Journalist, Dentist, Mass media, and project officer in other
NGOs).
This organization agenda is to help mitigate
the alarming rate at which the rivers are drying up and land
degradation was taking place within the area. The programs
main aim is to involve the youth as active participants in
environmental conservation. We achieve this by supporting
schools environmental clubs with hand tools, nursery material
and technical advice. We hope that the children will not only
extend to their home the environmental and soil conservation
knowledge gained, but they will also use it later in their
adult lives.
What we do
The organization donates suitable tree seeds
and potting bags to local schools to enable them establish
tree nurseries as an active activity for the school environmental
clubs (Indigenous, exotic, and fodder trees) and also awareness
raising on Environmental conservation, HIV/AID and Drugs by
giving a talk to the schools and through inter schools competition
on the same themes.
Starting of tree nurseries in schools is a
training ground where the young generation will be shown how
to care for trees, be aware of principles of environmental,
and soil conservation. We would like to extend to all the
local schools country wide in Kenya. |
