Profile of Nyana Hills

 Nyana hills are located in the south westward slopes of Mt Kenya (Kirinyaga). The hills is a home to diverse flora and fauna of the African rich heritage bio.- culture, these ranges from indigenous trees with myriad uses in areas such as; medicine, hardwood and habitant for co-existence.

We also have climbers and undergrowth that like a blanket covers the hills virgin soils.

There are birds of all kinds, rodents and various varieties of the antelope family. There is beauty and aroma ass one nature walks through the underneath, accompanied by whistling- buzzing of many insects, all filling the air to welcome yet another visitor in these hills.

Nyana has symbolically created in the analogy of Gikuyu and Mumbi or the biblical Adam and eve. The hills are two that form one big Nyana and discernly lay side by side like the complimentary mythical parents of mankind.

And Nyana was yet the home of the Mau Mau guerrillas’ freedom fighters. The hill sleeps on many secrets fighters as they struggled for their independences in the history of Kenya between 1946 and 1963. the very popular Generals of Mau Mau, army such as general Mathenge, general Tanganyiika, Mwariama and indeed Field Marshal Dedan Kimathi had their bush operations under the canvas of the huge trees an thick underneath. Indeed, if Nyana was not in place, perhaps the successful guerrilla operations against colonial regime wouldnot have been so successful in the entire Mathira Region.
